Parent Letter for Return to School

Dear Parents of Stewart County,

The district has been closely monitoring the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. We are extremely concerned about the rapid increase of cases in Stewart County. As a result, our Leadership Team was tasked with surveying parents and community leaders to gather input concerning the opening of school. The results of the survey were presented on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the Board Work Session. A copy of the power point presentation can be found on the District’s Webpage. The results of the survey indicated that our parents and staff feel strongly that Stewart County Schools need to open school virtually. I agree. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

I am extremely disappointed that our students will not be returning to school in person in August. However, the district has developed a plan that will allow our students to continue their academic pursuits. The board has given me their support in implementing a robust virtual Learning Approach for the first forty-five days of school. Since our rollout in mid-March, we have made major improvements to our virtual program. The new virtual learning program will provide strong standards-based curriculum, which keeps pace with the scope and sequence of a traditional classroom setting. We have also put layers of support in place to help students, teachers and parents address any technology needs.

Our 2020-2021 Virtual Learning approach will start August 3, 2020. Starting July 27, 2020, we will begin placing important information on the District’s Website, Schools’ Facebook pages and through our alert system regarding meals, technology, and other procedures. Please send updated phone numbers and addresses to the school so that we can communicate with you. Additionally, we will have registration on-line and that too will be posted on the Website with specific instruction as we move into the New Norm in dealing with this Pandemic.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely,

Dr. Valerie Roberts
